Finte O’Broin – The Byrne Society: An International Gathering of Byrne Clans

Welcome to the official clan website celebrating Byrnes and O’Byrnes in Ireland and throughout the world.

“Families who live with integrity and fidelity from generation to generation constitute the long societal sinews that make nations strong.” (Lt.-Col. Charles Artaud Byrne)

“The most important sign of nobility is the noble name and its history.  As a heritage this gift of the name must be put to good use.” (Anna-Maria Astrom)

A  MODERN  CLAN  FOR  A  MODERN  IRELAND  IN  A  MODERN  WORLD

Finte O’ Broin is an organisation which includes all Byrne DNA groupings and it aims to preserve the history, culture, traditions and identity of the Byrne name in all its variations in Ireland and abroad.

We are a group of academics, historians, public figures and enthusiasts who strive to promote research, intellectual and academic activities associated with the our name.

Finte O’Broin is the host site for all Byrne Clans whether they be Leinster and non-Leinster Byrnes.

CLAN O’BYRNE OF LEINSTER

Recent DNA evidence suggests that Clan O’Byrne of Leinster (Clann O’Broin Laighin) is a seperate and independent sept with only about 20% of all Byrnes belonging to this DNA grouping.

This website is also the official host and contact site for The Clan O’Byrne of Leinster Alliance involving representatives from the house of O’Byrne of Downes, representing the Crioch Brannach line and the house of O’Byrne of Ranelagh.

Non-Leinster Byrne Clans

The DNA evidence, which is now showing that as many as 80% of those who bear the Byrne name or its variations are of non-Leinster origin, seems to indicate that there may be as many as twelve different clans bearing the Byrne name in some form or another. What this means, of course, is that many Byrnes can now search for their true history and sense of identity without conforming to the myth that they must somehow be connected to Leinster.

NOTE: All of the information contained on this site is the result of sound historical research by respected academics, historians and genealogical professionals. However, due to the very nature of working research, all pedigrees and ancient family lines can be subject to change at any time in light of fresh evidence.
